When Deborah and David Tinsley opened the doors of Exceptional Home Care in 2002, their vision was to make a difference for both the families of special needs children and the nurses who worked for them. Today, their dream is a reality. With nearly 250 employees, Exceptional Home Care provides a full range of home health-care services to pediatric clients residing in 63 counties in North Central and East Texas. Now, they’re extending their reach even further with the launch of three new businesses: Omega Home Health, an agency specializing in wound care; Exceptional Staffing, a health-care recruiting company; and Whitton, Reed & Company, a construction firm specializing in remodeling projects for medically dependent home care patients.

Incubator role: Under the direction of Tony Tadasa, the Tyler Area Business Incubator played a vital role in helping the Exceptional Home Care enter the highly competitive home health-care market. Thanks to the incubator’s financial counseling services, a six-week management skills certificate course offered by incubator sponsor Tyler Junior College and the advice of an on-site Small Business Development Center, the firm grew quickly. In 2004, Exceptional Home Care moved into its own office complex in Tyler with 151 employees and revenues of $6.3 million. Today, the company employs nearly 250 health-care workers and has revenues of more than $8 million.
