24th Training Institute

TI 2014Portland, Oregon
Oct. 6-8, 2014
This event, held in Portland, Ore., brought together 145 people from nine different countries to participate in in-depth workshops on topics such as revenue generation, coaching clients, creating a seed accelerator, managing a university program and more. Several attendees also completed requirements of the NBIA Certificate of Incubator Management, and all had the opportunity to learn about the Portland entrepreneurial ecosystem during a tour of the Portland State University Business Accelerator, featuring the OTRADI Bioscience Incubator. 28th International Conference on Business Incubation

NBIA conducted its 28th International Conference on Business Incubation in May, bringing together almost 550 economic development professionals from around the globe. Held in New Orleans, the conference offered nearly 60 educational sessions, two keynote presentations, two incubator tours and many networking activities. 23rd Training Institute

Fort Worth, Texas
Oct. 7-9, 2013
This event brought together 125 incubation and economic development professionals from around the world for in-depth training workshops and intimate networking opportunities. Three of the four certificate workshops – The Fundamentals of Incubator Management, Serving Client Companies and Facilities Management – were offered, as well as workshops on topics including developing an incubator, helping clients secure funding, and marketing. This year's institute also featured a unique two-track workshop that explored different aspects of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, including coworking space, accelerators, angel networks, international incubation, student entrepreneurship and economic gardening. 27th International Conference on Business Incubation

Boston, Mass.
April 7-10, 2013
In one of the largest-ever NBIA conferences, more than 635 industry professionals from 43 countries convened at the Sheraton Boston Hotel. Attendees heard from three keynote speakers; interacted with more than 130 session presenters; and took part in several plenary discussions, including a breakfast where they could network by topic. They also toured the following area incubation and accelerator programs: MassChallenge, the Cambridge Innovation Center, North Shore InnoVentures and the Venture Development Center at the University of Massachusetts Boston. The Seventh Summit for Advanced Incubation Professionals

Santa Monica, Calif.
Jan. 27-29, 2013
NBIA’s Seventh Summit for Advanced Incubation Professionals, organized for members with four or more years of experience in the incubation industry, was held at the Turnstone WorkLife Center and The Huntley Hotel. This event provided attendees with a unique forum to hear expert panels and discuss with fellow industry veterans new ideas about the field’s most pressing topics and trends. 22nd Training Institute

Milwaukee, Wis.
Oct. 1-3, 2012
This event provided 125 business incubation professionals with in-depth training on indispensable topics like facilities management and fundraising as well as timely niche topics such as best practices for supporting kitchen, veteran and rural entrepreneurs. After the workshops ended each day, attendees took part in networking activities, including a vendor reception and a dine-around of restaurants along the award-winning Milwaukee Riverwalk. 26th International Conference on Business Incubation

Nearly 600 attendees from 28 countries attended the 26th International Conference on Business Incubation in Atlanta. The Sixth Summit for Advanced Incubation Professionals

Feb. 5-7, 2012

NBIA’s Sixth Summit for Advanced Incubation Professionals provided a unique opportunity for those with at least four years’ experience in the industry to network and brainstorm ideas about business incubation. Highlights included discussions about industry advocacy efforts and the relationship between business incubators and accelerators, as well as a Summit Showdown, in which participants competed to present the most innovative incubation initiative. 21st Fall Training Institute

Oklahoma City, Okla.
Oct. 3-5, 2011

More than 130 attendees from six countries participated in workshops on popular topics in incubation – such as client services, incubation business models and opportunities for incubator funding – at NBIA’s 21st Fall Training Institute. Highlights of the event included a welcome by Oklahoma Secretary of Commerce Dave Lopez, a dine-around of local restaurants, and a tour and reception at i2E, a nonprofit corporation focused on growing technology-based companies in Oklahoma and positively influencing the state’s economy. Clean Energy/Clean Technology Incubation Workshop & Meeting the Funding Challenge Seminar

Baton Rouge, La.
May 24-25, 2011

This first-time event was held in conjunction with the Clean Energy Alliance and hosted by the Louisiana Business & Technology Center. During the two-day training, 35 participants learned about various CECT sectors, clean-tech incubation programs and services, sources of funding for programs and clients, and ways to network and partner to become more sustainable.
