This is a unique opportunity for an individual who will lead a program for emerging innovators at the crossroads of science and technology entrepreneurship, teaching and venture funding.
This person will have program responsibility for our E-Teams Initiative (http://nciia.org/eteam_program/) including developing and implementing strategic objectives, managing staff and projects, and participating in all aspects of the program, from proposal review, team selection and training, through engagement with the early stage venture funding community. The ideal candidate will have a combination of entrepreneurial and early stage venture development experience (ideally in the scientific and/or technology sectors), and/or teaching applied entrepreneurship and venture development at the post-secondary level, along with effective people and project management skills. While we are located in Hadley (near Amherst), MA, the position can be based either here or in the Boston area.

Ohio Innovation Fund is a newly created start-up venture fund that is committed to be well capitalized and supported throughout the state of Ohio. The Fund is estimated to be $75 million; the two lead investors are The Ohio State University and Ohio University, $20 million and $15 million, respectively. Organized as a for-profit company, the Fund is focused on return on invested capital and profits to investors.
The Fund will provide early-stage capital and services. Investments will be seed and early stage, primarily series A and B rounds. Typical early stage investments are expected to be in the $4 to $5 million range, and seed-stage investments to be less than $750,000. Deal flow is expected from Fund Members with preferred access to deal flow from Ohio-based universities. The investment focus will be in technology-based companies in healthcare, alternative energy, agri-science, information technology, advanced materials and related technology areas.
The Managing Director will be responsible for identifying and evaluating investment opportunities; implementing investment fund strategies; leading and executing the investment of funds; and generating the targeted financial return on the investments. The Board is searching for a highly regarded venture capital investor with a positive investment track record. Exposure to or direct experience working with venture capitalist partners, entrepreneurs, and company management in verticals targeted for Fund investment is desired.
