NBIA Accepting Proposals for Fall Training Event

ATHENS, Ohio—The National Business Incubation Association (NBIA) is accepting proposals for interactive workshop sessions at a national training event for professionals interested in business incubation and entrepreneurship.

The 2-1/2-day event, planned for mid-fall 2001, will include at least four separate training sessions/modules of varying lengths. Specific dates and locations for the workshop will be posted on NBIA's Web site at www.nbia.org when plans are finalized with coordinating organizations.

The selection committee seeks diverse topics that will appeal to the varied interests, experience and needs of the NBIA membership. At least one workshop will address the basic startup issues of developing an incubation program. Other possible subject areas include entrepreneurial leadership, business training, facilities management and financing.

Sample titles/topics include:
  • Radical Innovation: How Big Companies Can Access New Technologies Through Entrepreneurial Startups
  • Best Practices in Business Incubation-Ensuring Your New Incubator's Community and Company Impacts
  • Technology Commercialization Through New Company Formation-How Universities Do It
  • How to Start and Grow a Business Incubator to Serve Your Community's Entrepreneurs
  • The Full Monty: Financing Startup and Fledgling Companies in the Real World
  • Overcoming Challenges to Developing Incubators in Rural Areas
Proposals should include a one-page description that addresses the target audience for the workshop, the expected learning outcomes of the session and the proposed interactive teaching methods. Interested trainers and organizations should also submit a list of presenters (name, title and professional affiliation) and brief credentials of each, as well as the expected remuneration (if any) and length of workshop (can vary from 1 day to 2 ½ days).

Proposals should be submitted by June 30 to Michael Mark, NBIA Director of Education, at mmark@nbia.org. Proposals can also be faxed to (740) 593-1996 or mailed to Training Institute, NBIA, 20 East Circle Drive, #37198, Athens, Ohio 45701.

The selection committee reserves the right to accept parts of proposals or recommend changes to suit the needs of its audience.
