@Wales Digital celebrates 500th job

The United Kingdom's @Wales Digital Media Initiative celebrated the creation of its 500th job in September 2008.

Software development company Evolvin, an incubator client, created the 500th job while expanding from eight staff members to an estimated 19 by February 2009.

First Minister of the National Assembly for Wales Rhodri Morgan attended the event. "Our internationally recognized digital incubator for newly born companies is proving to be a success and has led to a steady growth of jobs in this increasingly important industry," Morgan says.

Since its launch in 2001, the incubator has assisted more than 30 companies. "The celebrations and award we received today would not have been possible without the entrepreneurs," says Evan Jones, head of digital & incubation for @Wales and an NBIA board member.

@Wales, an NBIA Soft Landings International Incubator designee, provides business support services to digital companies. Clients include a company that offers Web-based online publishing services, a community-generated film-funding system for micro-budget movies, and a company that uses in-home touch-screen terminals to monitor patients' blood pressure and blood glucose.
