ATHENS, Ohio—The National Business Incubation Association’s board of directors named its new executive committee during an Oct. 6 meeting in Fort Worth, Texas.

New officers include President & CEO, Northeast Indiana Innovation Center in Fort Wayne, Ind., chairperson; Tom O’Neal, executive director, University of Central Florida Business Incubation Program in Orlando, Fla., first vice chairman; John Hanak, statewide director, Purdue Technology Centers in Indianapolis, Ind., second vice chairman; Chuck Wolfe, president, Claggett Wolfe Associates in Auburn, Calif., treasurer; Darlene Boudreaux, executive director, TECH Fort Worth in Fort Worth, Texas, secretary; and David Terry, executive director, WTAMU Enterprise Network in Amarillo, Texas, immediate past chairperson.

In addition, Devon Laney, COO & VP for client services, Innovation Depot in Birmingham, Ala., was appointed to the board by NBIA President & CEO Jasper Welch. Terry Howerton, co-founder and managing partner of TechNexus in Chicago, was elected to his first term on the NBIA board.
The new board members join the executive committee members and other individual board members whose terms will continue in 2013-14:

  • DeAnna Adams, an incubator professional and consultant from Denver
  • Sandra Cochrane, technology business consultant   at the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center in Kalamazoo, Mich.
  • John Hanak, statewide director of the Purdue Technology Centers in Indianapolis
  • Karl LaPan, president & CEO of Northeast Indiana Innovation Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
  • Mark Long, president of Long Performance Advisors in Ellettsville, Ind.
  • Tom O’Neal, director of University of Central Florida Business Incubation Program in Orlando, Fla.
  • Catherine Pommier, director  of Montpellier BIC in Montpellier, France
  • Megan Reichert, program manager of the Michigan Venture Accelerator in Ann Arbor, Mich.
  • Rick Roeser, business development specialist of the Wisconsin Business Innovation Corp. in Spooner, Wis.
  • Charles Ross, assistant director of the Enterprise Innovation Institute - EI2 in Atlanta
  • Darlene Boudreaux, executive director of TECH Fort Worth in Fort Worth, Texas
  • Fernando Sepulveda, founding partner & CEO of Impulsa Business Accelerator in Mexico City
  • Chuck Wolfe, president of Claggett Wolfe Associates in Auburn, Calif.
  • Russ Yelton, president & CEO of Northern Arizona Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Business incubation programs catalyze the process of starting and growing companies by providing entrepreneurs the expertise, networks and tools they need to make their ventures successful. NBIA estimates that in 2011 alone, North American incubators assisted about 49,000 start-up companies that provided full-time employment for nearly 200,000 workers and generated annual revenue of almost $15 billion.

NBIA’s 17-member board of directors, made up of representatives from leading business incubation programs, governs the organization. The group meets three times a year to discuss association business, including educational programming, finances, member recruitment/services and publications.
