It was 25 years ago this summer that the National Business Incubation Association was founded. Since then, business incubation has proven its value as an entrepreneurship strategy, and NBIA has become the largest business incubation association in the world.
Right from the beginning, NBIA Publications has provided high-quality information to incubation professionals. Through extensive, continuous research and reporting, NBIA has compiled the definitive body of work on business incubation. Of the 75 books, directories and reports produced, 24 are still in print (many available as PDFs) and can be purchased at the NBIA Bookstore.
What’s really interesting is how well these books hold up – several older titles are still useful references, and others have been updated and provide an interesting way to look at the development of the industry. Business Incubation Works is still the best demonstration of the added value that the incubation process gives small businesses; Incubating in Rural Areas provides best practices and case studies that address the unique needs of rural programs; and the guidance in Incubating the Arts becomes more relevant every day as more areas are using arts and tourism as economic development tools.
NBIA has published five “state of the industry” studies and will start work on another this summer. We have also published multiple versions of classics such as Human Resources, Bricks & Mortar, and A Comprehensive Guide to Business Incubation. All of these books (the most recent editions of which are still in print) demonstrate NBIA’s commitment to quality, user-friendly publications on incubation and entrepreneurship.
