CSA Medical designs, develops and distributes the CryoSpray Ablation system, a therapy that allows physicians to spray supercool liquid nitrogen on unwanted tissue. The therapy, which destroys diseased tissue and replaces it with the regrowth of healthy cells, can be performed on an outpatient basis in less than 30 minutes. Physicians are using the FDA-cleared device to treat and prevent disease, including cancer in the esophagus, chest and airway.
Incubator’s role: When CSA Medical entered the Emerging Technology Centers’ Eastern facility in 2005, the
firm had one employee and occupied the facilitys’s smallest office. "By the end of our first year, we had outgrown our space, and the ETC quickly moved us to a larger office," says Tim Askew, CSA Medical CEO. "As a rapidly growing company, flexible space is critically important, and ETC has exceeded all of our expectations in this area." The incubator also was instrumental in garnering publicity for CSA, in part by nominating the company for various awards and competitions. "Press releases associated with the resulting rewards were distributed to local and national outlets resulting in several significant placements," Askew says.
