Edge Medical Supply provides people of all ages with home medical equipment and supplies — including walking aids, wheelchairs, hospital beds, power and custom mobility devices, oxygen and diabetic testing supplies — to help them function at home as independently as possible. Founder Larry Edgerton founded the company in 2000; it entered the Tyler Area Business Incubator the same year.
Incubator's role: The Tyler Area Business Incubator has played an "instrumental" role in the company's success, according to Edgerton. "The incubator provided guidance on many business decisions in terms of efficiency, cash flow, growth and capital to bring us to where we are today," he says. The incubator initially helped Edgerton develop a business plan, which he needed to acquire the financing necessary to purchase customer products. Brian Bersano provided that funding and joined the company in 2002; he now serves as Edge Medical Supply's COO and CFO. The incubator also accommodated the expansion of the company from one 165-square-foot office to six offices and two large warehouse spaces. Growing from one employee — the founder — and a $15,000 payroll in its first year in business, Edge Medical Supply graduated from the incubator in 2009 with 42 employees and a $1.2 million payroll.
