Electronic Data Payment Systems (EDPS) incorporates innovation into financial tools to provide comprehensive payment processing solutions. This includes credit and debit services, check services, loyalty cards, online gateways and wireless options. Its products allow businesses to create manageable, efficient growth. Started in 2003 by the brother-sister team of William Treciak and Terri Mayle in Treciak's attic, the company entered the Tuscarawas County Business Incubator in 2004. With the incubator's help, EDPS achieved what Treciak believes is its biggest success in 2006, when it reached a cash-flow positive state. This gave EDPS the ability to bring on experienced staff in marketing and information technology to help continue the company's growth. EDPS graduated from the incubator in 2009, with a well-developed niche audience and important partnerships formed while an incubator client.
Incubator's role:"The Tuscarawas County Business Incubator provided EDPS with valuable resources in the form of professional office space and office supplies, but the company benefitted most from required quarterly reviews by the incubator staff," Treciak says. Every three months, he met with the incubator's board to discuss how the firm was doing compared with its goals and why it had achieved or missed its targets. "This process helped me develop my leadership skills while also assisting our ability to stay focused on executing and delivering on our commitments," Treciak says. "It also allowed us to experience the real-time need to make adjustments midstream." Those quarterly reviews, which included a look at future goals and growth strategies for the company, seem to have paid off. EDPS was named to the Inc. 5000 in 2010, with a three-year growth rate of 228 percent.
