Peters and Yaffee is a minority-owned professional services consulting firm that provides comprehensive professional engineering design in the fields of traffic and transportation services. Through its work, the firm provides design services for projects such as arterial highways, local streets, shopping centers, hospitals, parks, educational facilities and religious institutions. These plans and documents are ultimately used by its public agency clients in the bidding process for infrastructure improvement projects. Peters and Yaffee, which entered the Beaver Street Enterprise Center in 2008, expects to graduate from the incubator later this year.
Incubator's role: During its time in the incubator, Peters and Yaffee has participated in several training and mentorship programs that have helped the company grow. In particular, founders Dow Peters and Russell Yaffee worked with BSEC's finance director, who offered a monthly one-on-one session to help the entrepreneurs better understand the financial strength of the company and to monitor its progress as they executed their business plan. The incubator also helped the firm gain name recognition, which ultimately resulted in more opportunities for work. "BSEC has provided numerous marketing and networking opportunities that have given us venues to introduce our company to local government officials, public agency employees and the local media," Peters says.
