Achievements: With the recent addition of its Incu-App program for developers of Web-based and smartphone-based applications, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corp. operates three technology-based incubation programs. The other two are Incu-Tech, which assists companies in general technical fields, and Incu-Bio, which works with clients in biotech disciplines. One of its Incu-Tech client companies, iMusic Tech Ltd., was NBIA’s 2012 Outstanding Incubator Client winner in the technology category, and one of its graduates, LECCO Technology Ltd., was NBIA’s 2000 Graduate of the Year in the technology category. The Hong Kong program has been an NBIA Soft Landings International Incubator designee since 2007.

“We aim to transform innovation and technological advancement into value creation that benefits Hong Kong and the world,” says Frederick Yung, senior manager of business development and incubator support. “We provide facilities, services and a dynamic environment that enable companies to nurture ideas, innovate and develop.” With the addition of its Incu-App program, the incubator partnered with 11 of the world’s biggest hardware makers and software platform publishers, Hong Kong’s technical industry association and research institute, and the Hong Kong Business Angel Network, which the incubator was instrumental in forming.

The program has achieved ISO 9001 certification, offers a business plan consultancy service, has a product testing facility and has memoranda of understanding with incubation programs in mainland China and Taiwan, which allow open commerce between them and HKSTPC. Incubator staff conduct milestone assessments with application developers every three months and with clients of the Incu-Tech and Incu-Bio incubators every six months. The program also surveys clients to determine their satisfaction with the incubator 30 days after moving in, after 18 months, and upon exit and uses the survey results to adjust its service offerings.
